When facing a major decision, do you lead with your gut, brain or heart? Coffee house owners Brian Thinkalot, Amanda Heart, and Al Gutsenberg face the biggest decision of their lives. In a matter of days one of them must leave to open their first international coffee house in Beijing. They all know it s a true honor, a second chance to build something anew, and an even bigger responsibility. Who is to be the one? A contest ensues and six coffee house regulars are brought to life to help them settle it. In The Caffeinated Chronicles, Brian, Amanda, and Al bring us on one of their patron s first date with a sexologist to experience the pressure of high expectations, to accompany three scrapbooking mamas in search of their true identities in Seattle, and to witness the adventures of a renegade executive determined to build her own Water Cooler Republic. They also take us for a subway ride from Harvard Square to the American Dream, introduce us to the Left Handed Queen of Caffeine, and allow us to tag along while a love-torn minor royal goes on a hunger strike at the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language in Madrid. The ride is caffeinated, the emotions are real, and the laughter is the social lubricant that allows the learnings of our characters to sink in. Each one of the six chapters in the book is lead by an interlude. These interludes provide the arch of our major story and carry names such as The percolator brews a state of shock , Better latte than never , A Brew Ha Ha with a cup of Jet Lag Blend and For here or to go . Each interlude takes place around Sereno Coffee s cupping table, the nerve center of their operation. We follow the conversation that is going on between our lead characters. Introducing Amanda And with that, Amanda Heart, the tough-as-nails co-proprietor of the Sereno Coffee House & Roaster, burst into tears at the thought of breaking up the triumvirate that had meant the world to her for the last four years. Amanda, the barista loved by all who had set the Sereno mantra, every cup is worth a smile, remembered every name of the ninety-eight employees running their nine stores. At 27, she was a mother to employees twice her age as she not only gave them a job and a sensible health plan, but had also figured out a way to make their lives meaningful in a way that they wouldn t find working as Wal-Mart greeters or Burger King French fry operations engineers. Al Al was tall and strong and often judged by others before he even spoke his first word. Four years of varsity football at Georgia Tech while managing to make Dean s List as a Mechanical Engineer and Comparative Literature double major had made him a master of time management. His engineering background was most useful in times of crisis and everyone wanted to pigeonhole him into the practical and reliable realm of nerds. Few ventured to find out that he had a warmer side to him that had little to do with formulas, numbers, or the realm of rational thinking. Brian The fact that he looked like the product of a one-night stand between a nuclear physicist and a professional manicurist made his glasses the compass for his personae. Their tortoise shell coloring drew attention to his green eyes and, perhaps, away from his Roman nose. They also were an integral part of his facial expressions. Brian was one of those people who would adjust his glasses when he was listening attentively, remove them when he was shocked by something, and nudge them up the bridge of his nose when he wanted to get the attention of some attractive member of the opposite sex. It is their patron s stories and how Amanda, Brian, and Al tell them, which guide us to understand what they are truly made of, how much do they want Beijing, and the respect they have for coffee and all things caffeinated.

How do you review the work of someone you know? That's why I waited to talk to others who've read The Caffeinated Chronicles before writing this. Coming in, I expected the humor but had no idea that I would find myself laughing out loud. What really took me by surprise were the fables that came with it. This book immersed me in the lives of the characters and their situations. Behind the humor I found myself thinking and learning something in every chapter. I love that you can choose to read TCC just for the great stories (my favorites are Babes in Cropland and Date with a Sexologist) and be fully entertained, but if you want you can go deeper and use your brain while reading it. This book game me the space to enjoy it fully. The coffee background was a definite plus. I loved it.Product details

I loved reading this book! A friend in the coffee
Industry recommended it. The book's premise is smart and provides a very creative framework for the individual stories to develop. Its funny with lots of wit. I found myself laughing out loud often. The author gives us great insights into human nature love, relationships, working partnerships, even, traveling. I particularly loved the chapters titled The Left Handed Queen of Caffeine and Date with a Sexologist. These are hilarious and a joy to read. Enjoy and may we all become "pessoptimists".
