This is a silly poorly written book. Here is the premise so you don't have to waste $.01 (which is what I paid for the book and which as $.01 too much):* Life is too short!
* Be positive!
* Don't let the failures of the past affect your present and future!
* Hang around positive people!
* Stay away from negative people!
* Learn from your mistakes!
* Go for it!
We already know this from life and 10,000 better books on self-improvement. Everything in this book is covered FAR better in two essential books on success: 1) Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking" and 2) Dale Carnegie's "How To Win Friends & Influence People." Buy these two books and study them, especially the later.
Other very bothersome aspects of "Do it Rhino Style:"
* So many contradictions - but I'll explain just one in this review. On pg 20, his immense wisdom expresses that "when you have failed at a project and your gut tells you to move on, trust your gut and move on. Do it!" Just 11 pages later, this wise sage explains that "when total failure seems possible" others around you will "lose the vision" drop away and move on. Now, they sound like smart people "trusting their gut" as taught on page 20, right? WRONG! According to Dave, these people are negative and naysayers! A "True Rhino rises to the occasion and pushes through!" What utterly ridiculous advice. Hey Dave, you can't have it both way. How about this: You have no idea what you are talking about, have no idea about other people situations, and to give blanket advice is always wrong. Each situation has its own set of circumstances. So instead of giving advice, just say you don't know. But Dave would never say that -- It wouldn't be "Rhino Style!" and "always in charge!"
* The 12-point type face and massive margins making the 66 pages more like 20 pages in a properly typeset book.
* Dave's picture of himself sporting a "soul patch." I own a large advertising company and would never hire anyone wearing a soul patch past 1995. By the way, a soul patch is a bunch of hair under the bottom lip that looks missed during their morning shave. Only worn by fools trying to prove something.
* Dave's ridiculous view of himself: I deal with "Dave" (my new name for businessmen I work with who think they hung the moon) all day in my international work and one of my favorite things to do in business is bring them down. Dave is like the insurance agent who recently showed up at my office in his new 2-door Mercedes and fingers covered with gold nugget rings. He's was going to show ME what success looks like and sign that deal - that's right! When I asked him how he funded such an extravagant, showy lifestyle, he explained that it was due to his having so many clients. I added that it seemed to me that these clients were paying too much in premiums to fund such extravagance. I told him that although I was ready to sign before he arrived, after meeting him I would have to interview two other companies for the policy. Guess what? The other agent (who drove a Buick and actually had a better plan) won the job and Mr. "Full of Himself" gave up 20K in annual premiums. Dave Magrogan IS that full of himself salesman and if you follow his advice, this can be you! But please do me and the rest of the world a favor - skip the soul patch. Thanks.
